Indonesia, Vietnam Push The Integration of APEC Cooperation

Cyber Daily News - Indonesia and Vietnam are the two economic powers in the forum of Economic Cooperation Asia-Pacific (APEC) includes actively implementing programs of cooperation in trade and investment, as well as trade liberalization that forum.

Established in 1989, APEC membered Australia, the United States, Brunei, Canada, Chile, the Philippines, the People's Republic of China, China's Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Singapore, Korea Southern, Thailand, and Vietnam.


The Philippines will host the APEC Summit from 18-19 November 2015 after China last year. The last time the Philippines hosted in 1996.


Indonesia hosted the APEC summit in 1994 and 2013, and Vietnam hosts the APEC Summit in 2006 and will turn again in 2017.


President of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang, will attend the APEC summit in Manila and also Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla representing Indonesia.


Indonesia plays a role in the formation of APEC and present at the Ministerial Conference in Canberra in 1989. After Blake Island APEC meeting in Seattle, USA, in 1993 Indonesia hosted the 1994 APEC summit in Bogor.


The struggle of national interests in a number of APEC forums continue to be made either at the level of consultation, preparation and execution or implementation of the agreement.


Prof. Firmanzah PhD in a writing said Indonesia's position in the international arena will be more strategic. This of course is based on the struggle of national interest in the forum. Indonesia's position as one of the nine APEC countries who entered the G-20 is very strategic in maintaining the stability of the region as well as regional economic powerhouse.


As neighbors such as Indonesia and Vietnam who opened diplomatic ties 60 years ago and has established cooperation in various fields. As a fellow member of the ASEAN, APEC and regional organizations and other multilateral, both countries are "sailing across the ocean" towards a brighter future to achieve success, especially for the benefit of its people.


Both countries, which signed the Treaty of Friendship and Strategic Partnership in 2013 and the Strategic Partnership Action Plan 2012-2015 in 2011, has also set a bilateral trade target of 5 billion US dollars.The leaders of Vietnam and Indonesia subsequently agreed to accelerate the implementation of their action plan to boost Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership in the period 2014-2018 and also forging economic ties, trade and investment.


Targeted at both the trade sector have been made. Figures which have been pegged at 10 billion US dollars in 2018 was not easy to achieve given the two countries' trade value was recorded 5.4 billion dollars in 2014. The setting of targets is of course take into consideration regional and strategic security environment has changed and moved quickly.

What is achieved by Vietnam during that period won praise or appreciation of experts and institutions such as the World Bank, IMF, ADB and HSBC and foster confidence in the bright prospects for the country's economy in the future. WB, IMF, ADB and Vietnam HSBC expects GDP growth in 2015 reached six percent in 2016 (6.2 percent) and in 2017 (6.5 percent).


APEC where Indonesia and Vietnam, including active role has recorded important achievements, including the reduction of taxes three times, an increase of 300 per cent of internal trade, and facilitating the travel of individuals and businesses.


Membership of Vietnam

Vietnam joined the APEC in 1998. Joining to the group is an important step in the foreign policy of Vietnam to show openness, diversification, Multilateralisation, and international integration.APEC has proven to be a cooperative mechanism favorable for Vietnam, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu.


As an open economic forum, APEC has brought favorable agreements, non compromise to countries with a low level of development like Vietnam. APEC has a mechanism for open dialogue and trade policies, which would help countries such as Vietnam to adjust to the institutions of global and domestic trade.


The senior official also said APEC has had a specific program for the development of Commerce as an example of a program to reduce transaction costs and time between 2010 and 2015. The APEC Business Travel Card has been issued to provide access to the regional market for business without needing a visa.The Forum has also developed a database of trade statistics, and institutions of all its members, saving businesses time and use the funds for market research.


In the development phase of the new strategy, the Asia-Pacific region and APEC has become increasingly important for Vietnam in terms of economic, diplomatic, security and development.


Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that as much as 65 percent of investment made in Vietnam comes from partners in APEC, 60 percent of Vietnam's export products are marketed to them, 70 percent of foreign nationals who arrived in the country comes from anggota- APEC members.


Vietnam also has held strategic and comprehensive partnership with many APEC countries, including Indonesia.


The success of Vietnam to host the 16th APEC summit is proof of the country's massive contribution to the Asia-Pacific region and gives an indication of capacity and improved its position in the international arena.Speaking in an international seminar on the organization of APEC held recently in Hanoi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam Pham Binh Minh said host the APEC summit in 2017 is the focus of foreign affairs Vietnam until 2020, demonstrating the country's determination to encourage integration international and foreign policy multnam for multilateral.


He also said that this is an opportunity for Vietnam to gain support again, cooperation and resources of the forces of APEC economies to promote national development.
