Syria Conflict Resolution Is Not Only About Al Assad

Cyber Daily News - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, on Wednesday (Thursday GMT), said the settlement of the Syrian conflict should be focused on the need for strong government in Damascus and not just about the fate of President Bashar al-Assad.

"It's not about who, but about security and stability of the country," Rouhani said in an interview with a French television station, although he did not directly mention the name of al-Assad.


"We must all strive to combat terrorism in Syria and ensure the return of peace and stability," he said in an interview that was broadcast on the radio Europe 1.


Related to who should rule the country, he said, it is entirely dependent Syrian society."Those who should decide who their leader," said Rouhani.


Iran is a regional ally Syria are providing financial and military aid, including the Chiefs.Comments Rouhani was given ahead of a new round of international meetings on Syria in Vienna, next Saturday.


During the meeting, about 20 countries and international organizations will try to agree a road map for peace, including a cease-fire between Assad's forces and opposition groups.

Interviews with Rouhani ahead of his first visit to France as president, where he will meet French President, Francois Hollande, next Tuesday.
