Cyber Daily News - Iraqi Kurdish forces who supported the US-led coalition air strikes
launched a massive operation Thursday to retake the city of Sinjar of
occupation ISIS and ISIS simultaneously cut supply lines to Syria.
"The attack began at 7:00 am (11:00 GMT), and the Peshmerga forces (Kurdish) forward to some point to free the Sinjar district center," said Major General Ezzeddine Saadun told AFP.Smoke rose high in the town after the US-led coalition and Kurdish forces him with a bomb from the air and ground.Major General Hashem said Seetayi of Peshmerga Kurdish forces managed to regain some of the villages in the north of Sinjar.
Peshmerga said about 7,500 Kurdish fighters took part in the operation to occupy again this Sinjar and to build up a buffer zone to protect the city and its inhabitants from enemy artillery."The fighter-aircraft provide air support for coalition forces operating throughout the Peshmerga," said Seetayi.
Last Tuesday the US-led coalition forces launched six bombings to Sinjar and five bombing of the city of Al-Hol in the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Kurdish forces are only facing 300 to 400 militants in the Sinjar ISIS, said Captain Chance McGraw, a US military intelligence officer.
But the toughest enemy of the Kurds is a series of bombs, mines, dikes and other barriers that hold back the pace of Peshmerga.
"It is part of the exclusion of Mosul," said Colonel Steve Warren, a spokesman for coalition forces anti-ISIS. Sinjar, according to him, is the primary interface to the ISIS northern Iraq.
"Sinjar lies stretched on Highway 47 which is a key and critical supply route linking ISIS Mosul to Syria," Warren said in Baghdad.
"By occupying Sinjar, we cut the lines of communication, which we believe will constrict the ability of ISIS in getting supplies, and this is an important first step in freeing Mosul."
ISIS occupied Sinjar in August 2014 followed by the genocide against the minority Yazidi in this region.
Kurdish forces are now superior to ISIS to put yourself on Mount Sinjar at the edge of the city. They are only separated 50 meters from the line controlled by ISIS AFP.
