UN Security Council Approves the Mission in Libya Crackdown on Human Trafficking

Cyber Daily News - United Nations Security Council on Friday to allow naval operations the European Union (EU) for over a year catch and crush the ships operated by human smugglers in the waters of Libya.15-nation council passed a resolution, which designed the UK, with 14 member states agreed while one member, namely Venezuela, abstained.

Resolution to grant permission for the second phase of the overall --Of three tahap-- EU naval mission, to support efforts to stem the flow of migrants and refugees to Europe, which has risen to a major crisis in the past months.


The third phase of the EU mission, which is not included in the resolution, will be European operations in territorial waters and coastal areas of Libya.


Libya initially objected to the draft UN resolution about the mission, but its ambassador to the UN, Ibrahim Dabbashi, on Tuesday wrote to the Security Council to say that concern the country is gone and it agreed with the final draft resolution.


British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft welcomes such permission and said "any action will be done proportionally to maintain the limits specified by this resolution and will be used only to crack down on the smugglers and the vessels are empty."


He said the migrants were rescued will be taken to Europe.However, he warned that the naval missions against smugglers it will not deal with the root causes of migration concerns.


"Measures tehadap smugglers on the high seas will not solve this crisis alone," he said."But the (mission) This will be the message that people can not take advantage of this evil trade in a state of impunity. (Mission) will save the lives (humans)."


The operation will only be carried out on a trip wire migration from Libya and will not be conducted on these routes used to evacuate people from war in Syria and Iraq, from Turkey to Greece and to the Balkan countries.


Russia and the members of the Security Council from Africa, ie Chad, Angola and Nigeria, previously wary of licensing the use of force. However, they finally gave voice support for such a move.
